Repeated "Handheld May Be Full" errors on Centro (tried several fixes posted previously, but still stuck)

I just switched from a Palm Treo 680 (AT&T) to a Palm Centro (Verizon).

I've had a number of issues, most of which I've worked out, except for this one....

Every time I sync, I get this error message: "Some PC records were not copied to the handheld.  Your handheld may be full.  To correct this situation, delete some records and perform a HotSync operation again."

Of course, I only have about 7,500 address records so it's definitely not full.  I get this same message for Date Book, Address Book, and To Do List.  The rest are syncing okay.

Both the handheld and the desktop have new data.  Still, I bit the bullet and tried going from the handheld to erase over the desktop, but I simply get an "aborted" error for each of those database types, so nothing was erased anyway.

I've done hard resets, but this error always come back again soon.

I installed DbFixIt, but it says that there are no errors with any of my databases.

I installed FileZ and corrected the back-up error on PmTraceDatabase.

I have Windows Vista, HotSync Manager 7.0.2, and Palm Desktop by Access 6.2.2, but I mostly use Agendus for Windows Version 5.3 Build 1638.

Anyone have any suggestions.

Thank you!

Scott

What are the current memory numbers for the device. (Go to the home screen, click the menu button then Info.)

One option might be to remove the user from the PC. It might be the database on the PC that is "bad" Have you tried deleting the user from thePC? Export any data from the Palm desktop FIRST!

(In the Palm desktop edit users and delete the one in question. Note. If it's your only user then you will need to create a test user first. Then go into the Documents/Palm OS Desktop folder and rename the user folder for the "old user" to something like files.old Then sync. The PC should tell you there is already a partnership on the Treo, would you like to copy it to this PC? Just say yes and see what happens.

Re: Repeated "Handheld May Be Full" errors on Centro (tried several fixes posted previously, but still stuck)

Thank you!

From the phone, I e-mailed myself the unsynced newest entries.

I did a hard reboot on the phone.

On the computer, I exported each of the databases.

I deleted the original user name then created a new one.

I synced the empty databases to the phone.

I imported the previously-exported files into the desktop.

I synced again.  And everything seems to be working properly.

So far, so good....

I'll write back here if anything goes wrong again.

Thanks!
Scott

Grrr!  It's happened again.

This is what I'm getting....

Date Book synchronization aborted.
Duration: 0.7 seconds
Some PC records were not copied to the handheld.  Your handheld may be full.  To correct this situation, delete some records and perform a HotSync operation again.
Desktop = 4433, Handheld = 0

Same thing for the Address Book, but there were 7371 records.
And the To Do List with 1 record.

What else can I do to fix this??

Thanks,

Scott

It appears that exporting the Address Book does NOT include the category names (why not?).  Thus, I tried the process above again, but I used the Date Book and To Do exports, but a back-up of an older full database.

After hard booting the phone, I had to delete the default categories and create the list of categories that would get imported once I did the first sync.

So far, this seems to be working....

Re: Repeated "Handheld May Be Full" errors on Centro (tried several fixes posted previously, but still stuck)

I am having the same problem except that this is my first Palm device.  I read the posts in this thread and don't quite grasp exactly what was done to eleviate the sync problems.

I'm slightly technologically challenged so if someone would please, kindly, give me some step-by-step instructions, I'd GREATLY appreciate it!

Thank you,

Jess

Re: Repeated "Handheld May Be Full" errors on Centro (tried several fixes posted previously, but still stuck)

I am having similar problem.  Centro connected via USB to 32 bit Vista and Palm Desktop (not Outlook, no Wireless synch).

Sometimes get "Date Book synchronization aborted..."

HotSync session completed with errors on 03/09/09 20:55:20

  •   HotSync session started on 03/09/09 20:54:50, and completed in 30.0 seconds
  •   Date Book synchronization aborted
    •   Duration: 14.6 seconds
    •   Some PC records were not copied to the handheld. Your handheld may be full. To correct this situation, delete some records and perform a HotSync operation again.
    •   Desktop = 5000, Handheld = 4983
  •   Address Book synchronized successfully
    •   Duration: 2.6 seconds
  •   To Do List synchronized successfully
    •   Duration: 0.4 seconds
  •   Memo Pad synchronized successfully
    •   Duration: 0.4 seconds
  •   Media synchronized successfully

I have 63 of 68 MB free.

I can clear this by changing settings to overwrite from Desktop to Handheld and synching.  This works.  (The setting reverts to "Synchronize the Files" for subsequent synchs.)  Then things behave properly for a while.  I can add a Calendar event on my handheld and synch to Desktop, I can delete the event on my handheld and synch to Desktop.

But then for some reason sometime later I get the same synch error and have to go back into settings to have the Desktop overwrite the Handheld.  Things work for a while, then they don't again.

Any ideas?

My suggestion would be DbFixIt. Sounds like there might be some kind of curruption within the calendar.

Re: Repeated "Handheld May Be Full" errors on Centro (tried several fixes posted previously, but still stuck)

I tried to open my Palm Desktop and received the following message:  Error:  Failed to open Address Book database.  I have tried soft reset, unintstalling and reinstalling software with no luck.  Help!
